This didn't work in my blog this morning, but this is a pic of latest work on our foundation with the support beams in the basement!!

A scorcher this weekend!

I think this was the first weekend of extremely HOT weather and somehow Dave's new employer, KJWW, managed to schedule their summer picnic this past weekend, so we were forced to battle the heat for a few hours on Saturday. Luckily there was a pavillion wher we could at least stay out of the direct sun. It was the first company event that we were able to go to, so it was a day of meeting all the co-workers and significant others (I think half the people in their office are either named 'Jeff' or 'Dave' - which makes it easier to remember most of their names) . But, it was a nice time and everyone seemed very nice!

We also dropped by the house this weekend to see progress, not much to report on our house. They did put the beams in the basement and prepared the basement floor and garage to have the cement poured this week. One of the ten houses on our court has 2 floors framed, so hopefully this week will show more progress!

Other random things to report...Dave started a new diet a few weeks ago and has lost 5 pounds, he's very excited!! And for me, I somehow got talked into running the Chicago half marathon on Oct. 1st. Our company is having a small "challenge" to see what teams can run the fastest combined time - although the team I got recruited on will definitely not be the fastest, I figure it would be a good challenge for me to take on.

The First Hickman BLOG..

Not too much exciting going on for this first blog of ours. Dave and I have been in our apartment now for over a month and boy was it an adjustment to get used to at first, moving to a 1-bedroom apartment housing 2 people, a husky and yes - our lovable boa as well! We have gotten used to the new digs though, the only time we have issues is when we both want to make our lunches in the morning. Trying to share a small 3 foot piece of countertop space next to the fridge to pull out all the necessary good eats for that day proves to be a somewhat interesting task. Although, we seem to have learned to maneuver around each other quite well, each taking our turn at pulling out our food from the fridge and then let the next person go...but wait, I forgot something...my turn again! Oh yes and let's not forget that Sasha thinks she needs to get in on the action as well, so she waits for her chance at the morning lunch making tidbits that may fall on the floor to gobble up.

On a more positive note, it looks like sometime late this week or next week they'll start the framing on our house in Oswego - although we've now been told that we can look forward to a mid-November move in versus Sept/Oct. Although this is all tentative as weather plays a large factor in these things, we'll continue to play it by ear and see what happens. I'm just hoping we're not trying to move in 2 feet of snow!!

Well, that's about it for now...stay tuned!
